Sharing the Hope of Easter in 2021

Share

Easter 2021 marks a whole year of COVID-19 and a planet that’s thirsty for the love and hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ. There’s never been a greater love story than the story of God sending His Only Son to die for sinners and rise to life again! But with everything that is going on, how do you find the resources to share this hope AND get people to listen?

One option is to show the people in your community how God’s love and Jesus’ sacrifice can still impact their lives in 2021. That is where the new Love Reigns series and resources can be a big help.

To see the love that God has for us, we need not look any further than the cross of Calvary. Through Jesus’ death and resurrection, we have been given an opportunity to embrace the resurrection life. Love Reigns was designed to show how when God is on the throne of your life, even COVID-19 can’t take your hope! This new way of living changes everything. It wipes away our past, it redefines our present and it gives us hope for our future.

Let’s take a look at the Biblically-based series topics and how you can use them to speak truth, love and hope to your community.

Let God rule and reign in your life and you will experience his great love for you.

Week One "Love Reigns (Easter)"

Synopsis: As Jesus was being crucified, the soldiers mocked him by placing a crown of thorns on his head and placing a sign over his head that read “king of the Jews.” They did not see him as the true King who rules and reigns. After Jesus’ resurrection, he revealed himself to his disciples and because of his defeat of death, he claims all authority over heaven and earth. It was Jesus’ love for us that held him on the cross. His love reigns in our lives when we put our faith, hope and trust in him.

Scripture: Matthew 27:32-42 and Matthew 28:18-20

The Easter Sunday sermon reveals how Jesus’ death and resurrection proves that he is the true king and has authority over everything. But unlike worldly authorities, Jesus acts with love towards us, freeing us of burdens we were never meant to carry, and giving us true freedom and hope.

This sermon also launches the series, so as you conclude your Easter services you can invite everyone to return and hear more about how Love can reign in their lives.

Week Two "Love Reigns Over Our Past"

Synopsis: Jesus Christ demonstrated his love for humanity by sacrificially giving his life on the cross and resurrecting from the dead. Because of this incredible act of love, those who are in Christ have become new creations. All of our past mistakes, sins and miscues have been covered by the blood of Jesus. Our past no longer has the last word and final say over our lives and we have been given a fresh start. We have been reconciled to God and we in turn can give hope to others by making an appeal for God’s forgiving love to them as well.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21

Isn’t it nice to know that our past doesn’t define us? Now think about all the people in your community who do not know this truth. People who carry heavy burdens of guilt, shame and unworthiness around with them everyday have no hope and can’t see a better life.

Use this theme to invite people in your community to lay down their pasts to realize that they are created for more and that they can start fresh with the love only Jesus can bring.

Week Three "Love Reigns Over Our Present"

Synopsis: God’s great mercy became a transforming reality through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This mercy is a result of God’s love for us and this love invites us to live differently in the present. We are to be living sacrifices that no longer conform to the patterns of the world. The world around us is deceptive, selfish, angry and foolish. These cannot be the patterns we live by today. Rather, we must renew the way we think and in doing so we will discover God’s will for us in the present. This is not easy; however, a living sacrifice is always tempted to crawl back off the altar.

Scripture: Romans 12:1-2

“The world around us is deceptive, selfish, angry and foolish. These cannot be the patterns we live by today.”  This is so true today!

Many people in our communities feel this way about our society, but feel powerless to change it. We all want more kindness and consideration but few of us realize that many of the decisions we make today determine who we will be in the future. We may not be able to change the world, but we can influence our little part of it for the better when we replace destructive patterns in our lives with God’s way of living.

Invite your community to think about and discuss what types of small changes everyone can  make that will make your neighborhood a better place to live.

Week Four "Love Reigns Over Our Future"

Synopsis: Too many people are consumed with worry and anxiety about what tomorrow might hold. This fear can be paralyzing. As Christians we believe that our loving heavenly Father is always looking out for us. He takes care of the birds of the air and the flowers of the field and that gives us confidence that he will take care of us too. There is no benefit from worry, in fact, anxiety only hurts us. We should trust God and allow him to guide our steps.

Scripture: Matthew 6:25-34

If 2020 has taught us anything it’s that we have no control over our futures! That isn’t a pleasant thought and a lot of people around us are consumed by fear and worry but when we follow Jesus and yield to his supreme plans, we can let our worries go – he takes care of us! Now that is true hope.

Share with your church and community how when you are a child of the true king, an all-powerful, all-loving God, he is in control of the future and you can lean on him to provide for your needs!

Are you ready to bring hope to your church and community, as they encounter a love that reigns over their pasts, presents, and futures? This truly is a message meant for 2021 – Love Reigns! Start planning for your Easter series now and let’s see God work mightily.
